I wonder if his eyes help him see better or worse. It seems to me that black moors (similar eyes but not as protrusive) have a hard time seeing food and have to resort to gravel sifting.
Telescope eyes have similar problems with seeing. Usually, it's recommended to keep these fish in a tank where there is less competition to eat however The Mad Scientist seems big enough to compete with the others for food.
